Road salt destroys conventional buildings — it eats rebar, rots sheet metal and rusts fasteners from day one. An engineered fabric salt shed puts a non-corroding membrane and hot-dip galvanized frame between your de-icing stockpile and the structure holding it up.

Salt attacks everything conductive. The membrane cover never corrodes, and the hot-dip galvanized frame keeps steel protected where conventional structures start bleeding rust in year two.
Dry salt spreads better. A weather-tight envelope keeps the stockpile dry, preventing clumping and leaching — better application performance and less product loss every season.
Contained runoff keeps regulators happy. Covered storage on a proper pad with perimeter walls addresses the environmental containment expectations that uncovered piles can't.
Natural light, no fixtures over the pile. Translucent covers mean operators can see inside during daylight loading without corroding light fixtures hanging in the salt-air zone.

How big should our salt shed be?
Size from your stockpile: roughly 80 lb per cubic foot for bulk road salt, plus room for equipment movement and pile angle of repose. Tell us your tonnage and loader sizes and we'll turn that into a footprint — most municipal sheds land between 60′ and 100′ spans.
Why ponywalls instead of piling against the fabric?
Ponywalls do two jobs: they take loader bucket impact that would destroy a fabric sidewall, and they lift the arch so you can pile full-height right against the wall instead of losing capacity to the arch curve.
Can you replace the cover on our existing salt dome?
Yes — recovers on existing salt storage structures are one of our most common projects. If the galvanized frame is sound, a new membrane and hardware restores the building for a fraction of new-build cost.
Do fabric salt sheds meet environmental storage requirements?
Covered storage on an impermeable pad with contained drainage is the core of salt management best practice in Canada. We design to your municipality's or province's salt management plan requirements — bring them to the design meeting and they're built in.
